Pre-Op and
Post-Op Instructions
Pre-Op Instructions
-
Nothing to eat or drink after midnight
the night before surgery.
-
If you take any medications, such as
for high blood pressure or diabetes, please check with the nurse about
taking these the day of surgery.
-
You may brush your teeth on the morning
of surgery, but do not swallow any water.
-
Bathe or shower on the morning of
surgery to minimize the risk of infection.
-
Please shave at the bikini line. Be
informed that if you do not wish to do this, the Surgery Center will do so
to minimize the risk of infection.
-
Remove any colored nail polish
on finger or toe-nails prior to surgery. The nail beds are checked
periodically in surgery by the anesthesiologist.
-
Arrange for a responsible adult to
drive you home.
Post-Op Instructions
-
If you haven't already arranged for
your follow-up appointment at The Modesto Vein Center, please do so. These are
scheduled for 3-7 days post-op, unless needed sooner.
-
Keep dressings dry and intact. You may
remove the bandages the day after surgery. Try to leave the Steri-strips in
place; they will eventually loosen by themselves, which they are designed to
do.
-
You may shower the morning after
surgery, but do not over-saturate with water or soap. Then dry the incision
areas carefully.
-
A prescription for discomfort will be
given to you. You may also take Tylenol if you experience any extra
discomfort. AVOID ASPIRIN PRODUCTS.
-
It is not unusual for the treatment
area(s) to become sore and reddened. You may apply an ice pack the first
day.
-
Please feel free to contact the office
if you have any questions. For medical concerns requiring that you speak
with a nurse, call 209.572.7152.
